Job Title: Spirometry Nurse

Location: Rotherham and Barnsley 

Hours: 3 full days 12 hour shifts and 1/2 a day at home Administration 

Salary: Competitive 

Fixed Term

 

Job Purpose:  To build therapeutic relationships with service users, to empower them to participate in the Targeted Lung Health Programme. This includes where indicated, referral onto LDCT and smoking cessation services.

 

The Spirometry Nurse team are committed to comprehensively completing part of the Lung Health Check programme as per the standards of the National Protocol. Depending on the programme location and the individual contract requirements, this will involve face to face patient reviews, including spirometry and other respiratory testing.

Role and Responsibility: 

In selected locations and for patients identified by their GP practice as meeting the inclusion criteria : 

        Complete spirometry or other approved respiratory assessment tools when indicated and report results back to the MDT and patient’s GP.

        To follow the programme process flow, in relation to the patient outcomes at each stage of the process

        Check verbal patient consent to proceed with the Spirometry and provide the GDPR statement, prior to the review and spirometry completion.

        To recheck the inclusion and exclusion criteria for the programme with the patient.

        To answer any queries patient may have in relation to the Lung Health Pathway.

        To check the patient’s height and weight (as per the patient’s instruction) and record in the electronic patient record system.

        To fully document all patient interactions and stages in accordance with Company policies and procedures which include the electronic patient record system.

        To individually and collectively maximise the volume of patients seen each day, so that more patients can be screened, to identify those patients at early stages of lung cancer.

        Undertake other tasks and assignments which may be required by the Nurse Manager or Company as discussed and agreed.

        Maintain professional registration, up to date knowledge and evidence base in therapy areas.

        Comply with the relevant regulatory guidelines including the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry.
